16-5: Press release Hirsi Ali

"I came to Holland in the summer of 1992 because I wanted to be able to determine my own future. I didn't want to be forced into a destiny that other people had chosen for me, so I opted for the protection of the rule of law. Here in Holland, I found freedom and opportunities, and I took those opportunities to speak out against religious terror.

In January 2003, at the invitation of the VVD party, I became a member of parliament. I accepted the VVD's invitation on the condition that I would be the party's spokesman for the emancipation of women and the integration of immigrants.

What exactly did I want to achieve?

First of all I wanted to put the oppression of immigrant women -- especially Muslim women - squarely on the Dutch political agenda. Second, I wanted Holland to pay attention to the specific cultural and religious issues that were holding back many ethnic minorities, instead of always taking a one-sided approach that focused only on their socio-economic circumstances. Lastly, I wanted politicians to grasp the fact that major aspects of Islamic doctrine and tradition, as practiced today, are incompatible with the open society.

Now I have to ask myself, have I accomplished that task?

I have stumbled often in my political career. It has sometimes been frustrating and slow. However, I am completely certain that I have, in my own way, succeeded in contributing to the debate. Issues related to Islam - such as impediments to free speech; refusal of the separation of Church and State; widespread domestic violence; honor killings; the repudiation of wives; and Islam's failure to condemn genital mutilation -- these subjects can no longer be swept under the carpet in our country's capital. Some of the measures that this government has begun taking give me satisfaction. Many illusions of how easy it will be to establish a multicultural society have disappeared forever. We are now more realistic and more open in this debate, and I am proud to have contributed to that process.

Meanwhile, the ideas which I espouse have begun spreading to other countries. In recent years I have given speeches and attended debates in many European countries and in the United States. For months now, I have felt that I needed to make a decision: should I go on in Dutch politics, or should I now transfer my ideas to an international forum?

In the fall of 2005 I told Gerrit Zalm and Jozias van Aartsen, the leaders of the VVD, that I would not be a candidate for the parliamentary elections in 2007. I had decided to opt for a more international platform, because I wanted to contribute to the international debate on the emancipation of Muslim women and the complex relationship between Islam and the West.

Now that I am announcing that I will resign from Dutch politics, I would like to thank the members of the VVD for my years in parliament - to thank them for inviting me to stand for parliament, and -- perhaps more importantly -- for putting up with me while I was there, for this has been in many ways a rough ride for us all. I want to thank my other colleagues here in parliament for their help, although some of our debates have been sharp. (Femke Halsema, thank you especially for that!). I would also like to thank the 30,758 people who in January 2003 trusted their preference vote to a newcomer.

But why am I not remaining in parliament for my full term, until next year's election? Why, after only three and a half years, have I decided to resign from the Lower Chamber?

It is common knowledge that threats against my life began building up ever since I first talked about Islam publicly, in the spring of 2002. Months before I even entered politics, my freedom of movement was greatly curtailed, and that became worse after Theo van Gogh was murdered in 2004. I have been obliged to move house so many times I have lost count. The direct cause for the ending of my membership in parliament is that on April 27 of this year, a Dutch court ruled that I must once again leave my home, because my neighbors filed a complaint that they could not feel safe living next to me. The Dutch government will appeal this verdict and I grateful for that, because how on earth will other people whose lives are threatened manage to find a place to stay if this verdict is allowed to rest? However, this appeal does not alter my situation: I have to leave my apartment by the end of August.

Another reason for my departure is the discussion that has arisen from a TV program, The Holy Ayaan, which was aired on May 11. This program centered on two issues: the story that I told when I was applying for asylum here in Holland, and questions about my forced marriage.

I have been very open about the fact that when I applied for asylum in the Netherlands in 1992, I did so under a false name and with a fabricated story. In 2002, I spoke on national television about the conditions of my arrival, and I said then that I fabricated a story in order to be able to receive asylum here. Since that TV program I have repeated this dozens of times, in Dutch and international media. Many times I have truthfully named my father and given my correct date of birth. (You will find a selection of these articles in the press folder). I also informed the VVD leadership and members of this fact when I was invited to stand for parliament.

I have said many times that I am not proud that I lied when I sought asylum in the Netherlands. It was wrong to do so. I did it because I felt I had no choice. I was frightened that if I simply said I was fleeing a forced marriage, I would be sent back to my family. And I was frightened that if I gave my real name, my clan would hunt me down and find me. So I chose a name that I thought I could disappear with - the real name of my grandfather, who was given the birth-name Ali. I claimed that my name was Ayaan Hirsi Ali, although I should have said it was Ayaan Hirsi Magan.

You probably are wondering, what is my real name?

I am Ayaan, the daughter of Hirsi, who is the son of a man who took the name of Magan. Magan was the son of Isse, who was the son of Guleid, who was the son of Ali. He was the son of Wai'ays, who was the son of Muhammad. He was the son of Ali, who was the son of Umar. Umar was the son of Osman, who was the son of Mahamud. This is my clan, and therefore, in Somalia, this is my name: Ayaan Hirsi Magan Isse Guleid Ali Wai'ays Muhammad Ali Umar Osman Mahamud.

Following the May 11 television broadcast, legal questions have been raised about my naturalization as a Dutch citizen. Minister Verdonk has written to me saying that my passport will be annulled, because it was issued to a person who does not hold my real name. I am not at liberty to discuss the legal issues in this case.

Now for the questions about my forced marriage. Last week's TV program cast doubt on my credibility in that respect, and the final conclusion of the documentary is that all this is terribly complicated. Let me tell you, it's not so complex. The allegations that I willingly married my distant cousin, and was present at the wedding ceremony, are simply untrue. This man arrived in Nairobi from Canada, asked my father for one of his five daughters, and my father gave him me. I can assure you my father is not a man who takes no for an answer. Still, I refused to attend the formal ceremony, and I was married regardless. Then, on my way to Canada -- during a stopover in Germany -- I traveled to the Netherlands and asked for asylum here. In all simplicity this is what happened, nothing more and nothing less. For those who are interested in the intimate details of my transition from a pre-modern society to a modern one, and how I came to love what the West stands for, please read my memoir, which is due to be published this fall.

To return to the present day, may I say that it is difficult to live with so many threats on your life and such a level of police protection. It is difficult to work as a parliamentarian if you have nowhere to live. All that is difficult, but not impossible. It has become impossible since last night, when Minister Verdonk informed me that she would strip me of my Dutch citizenship.

I am therefore preparing to leave Holland. But the questions for our society remain. The future of Islam in our country; the subjugation of women in Islamic culture; the integration of the many Muslims in the West: it is self-deceit to imagine that these issues will disappear.

I will continue to ask uncomfortable questions, despite the obvious resistance that they elicit. I feel that I should help other people to live in freedom, as many people have helped me. I personally have gone through a long and sometimes painful process of personal growth in this country. It began with learning to tell the truth to myself, and then the truth about myself: I strive now to also tell the truth about society as I see it.

That transition from becoming a member of a clan to becoming a citizen in an open society is what public service has come to mean for me. Only clear thinking and strong action can lead to real change, and free many people within our society from the mental cage of submission. The idea that I can contribute to their freedom, whether in the Netherlands or in another country, gives me deep satisfaction.

Ladies and Gentlemen, as of today, I resign from Parliament. I regret that I will be leaving the Netherlands, the country which has given me so many opportunities and enriched my life, but I am glad that I will be able to continue my work. I will go on."

it is sad to deal like this with u. ofcource i am not feelinh happy that you are kicked form holland and sent you back out of the door! i feel not only shame but mrs verdonk showed you that she is a pure dutch and that you are outsider. you didi many good things for holland but there was olso a less good things that you did for holland like murdering of theo van gogh that many people blieves you were the reoson for that case. what ever it is ...i feel sad thad you are kicked from holland and you left from the netherland, the country that you spent more than half of you are life! Ik was zeker niet mee eens op de manier hoe je politieke gedachten overbracht naar de mensen toe, vooral het gedeelte Islam is een gevoelige onderwerp!!! Ik vind je geen voorbeeld van een goede politicus, die geeft zijn mening en gedachten weer op een politiek correct manier zonder ook maar iemand te beledigen! Maar ik moet toegeven dat ik het niet juist vind dat je paspoort wordt ingenomen, door minister Verdonk. Je bent inmiddels geen crimineel, misschien een leugenaar maar daar zijn er veel van in Nederland, en zij worden ook niet weggestuurd. Minister Verdonk zit zeker niet op haar plek, en ik geloof dan oook dat haar tijd snel voorbij zal zijn, maar dat zul jij misschien niet kunnen meemaken! There are many men and women in the U.S., including me, who are sickened by the thought of the women in the world who suffer at the hands of religious terrorists and because of monstrous, misogynist traditions from subordination to genital mutilation. Ik zal eerst zeggen dat ik tegen moord ben zoals het moord op Theo Van Gogh. Ik geef hier de schuld aan Ayaan Hirshi Ali of wat ze ook in het echte leven mag heten. Haar film heeft voor veel problemen gezorgd in onze samenleving dit heeft ze alleen gedaan voor één doel en dat is haar naam bekend maken en meer in het media komen.

Ayaan denkt alleen aan haar zelf en niet aan anderen zoals zij het beweerd, haar onderzoeken en dergelijk informatie die ze heeft gekregen zijn allemaal valse informatie en onjuist om te zeggen dat ze veel weet over eerwraak.

Nu weet iedereen dat ze alles heeft verzonnen en dat zij juist niet is gevlucht van een eerwraak en of iets anders. En nog steeds zijn er mensen die haar dekken en haar juist moedigen om verder te gaan. Halloooo een leugenaar die alleen voor haar zelf op komt en niet aan jullie denkt?
Nederlanders moet leren op te komen voor hun zelf en niet via anderen zoals PIM zijn dood was zeker niet nodig en een hij was een goede mens met een goede hart zo ver ik het weet (letten jullie ook op dat ik ook niet alles weet en dat ik dat ook duidelijke maak). Hij is dood gegaan alleen omdat de meeste Nederlanders dachten dat hij het wel aan kon "het stem van het folk". Kom op zeg, durf zelf eens wat. Maar met beledigen van een geloof komen we niet ver dus niet doen wij respecteren ook uw geloof.

Ayaan verdiend nu wel eerst straf voordat ze het land uitgezet word. Ze heeft met leugens en verwarrende verhalen voor veel opschudding gezorgd en nu wordt ze zonder straffen het land uit gezet. Nee... dit is niet acceptabel. Zij moet juist boeten voor alle leugens die zij verteld heeft en alle kosten die voor haar gemaakt zijn.

Als dit niet het geval is dan zal ik de komende periode ook mijn naam bekend maken en ook laten zien dat ik makkelijk alle belasting geld kan gebruiken voor eigen gebruik. Is het niet zo dat is je valse informatie het gegeven tijdens het verkrijgen van een vergunning en dergelijke documenten dat je er voor moet boeten (terug betalen). Als ze dit bij haar niet flikken dan weet ik 100% dat dit voor meer problemen gaat zorgen zoals ze er nu over denken.

Ayaan is gewoon een persoon die misbruik heeft gemaakt van bepaalde situaties. En deze gebruikt om haar naam bekend te maken en nu gaat ze in Amerika alles omver helpen. Ayaan geloof me je bent niet beter af in Amerika je krijgt daar meer problemen dus wees op je hoede daar gaat het ook niet echt goed.

In Gods naam mensen hoe kunnen jullie denken dat zij het goed heeft gedaan.... Wat heeft ze gedaan? Hoe kan ze credit krijgen voor iets wat ze alleen maar erger heeft gemaakt. Eerwraak dahm dit is niet iets dat te maken heeft met geloof dit is gewoon iets wat in een mens zelf zit dit verander je niet zo maar.

Kijk maar naar Amerika hoeveel mannen de vrouwen vermoorden en of verwonden tegenwoordig lijkt het wel anders om in Amerika maar daar gaat het niet om. Het idee is dat dit een soort macht vertoon is dat de man duidelijk laat merken waar ik ook tegen ben.

Ayaan ook tijdens je laatste press heb je weer gelogen dat je bang was van eerwraak en dat je zo je naam had veranderd. Dat is weer niet de waarheid je broer en je man hebben dit duidelijk gemaakt dat het nooit het geval was. Dat jij gewoon een ander land wou zien is anders maar het schuld op je ouders geven en je man dat gaat te ver toch.

Wees nou eerlijk Ayaan één keer in je leven.
Je bent niet gevlucht van eerwraak maar van je man die je niet wou.
Bij ons is het een gewoonte om elkaar eerst te leren kennen en dan als het klikt met hem of met haar te trouwen maar dit duurt ook een jaar minimaal we hebben een periode waar we verloofd zijn en dan pas trouwen, dat is minimaal één jaar.
En je was aanwezig bij je huwelijk en hebt hem ook nog gezien en gesproken voor je huwelijk en goedgekeurd. Wat moet ik nou denken over je gedwongen trouwerij? Ayaan je barst van de leugens denk ik. Iedereen heeft je familie op TV gezien. Wie liegt er nou iedereen in je familie of jij en waarom?

Je zou je kunnen lezen over de samenleving in Somalië en de cultuurgebruiken daar - en niet hier en daar van wat je denkt te horen als 'waarheid' eruit plukken.

Mag Ayaan trouwens zélf beslissen wat zei doet of niet. Haar wel of niet huwelijk gaat jou geen kláp aan.

Wat is de wérkelijk reden van jouw afkeur?

Maar even voor de duidelijkheid en zijn absoluut geen BEWIJZEN (foto's!) dat zij aanwezig was op haar huwelijk; en haar broer heeft intussen ontkent dat dat zo was.

Ik wil foto's zien voordat ik VERHALEN geloof!

Cultuurgebruik in Somalië gaat mij niets aan en wat zij doet met haar beslissingen ook niet zij mag doen wat ze wil.

Ik vergelijk geen culturen ik noem landen en een verschil tussen mannen en vrouwen. Duidelijk te maken dat mannen altijd proberen boven op te komen waardoor mannen een soort eerwraak actie voeren. Deze heeft dus niet met het Islam te maken. Ik wil ook duidelijk maken dat het cultuur verschil er ook wel zit hier in Nederland zijn er veel jongeren die hun vader ook niet kennen lekker handig voor de kind om zich dagelijks af te vragen waar is mijn vader en of waarom zijn ze niet getrouwd? Ik kan er wel dagen over kletsen.

Maar ik vind dat Ayaan niet verdiend te blijven omdat zij in de 2de kamer zit en een lid is van de VVD zo iemand hoort niet te liegen wij vertrouwen haar juist.

Wat betreft de foto's zij kan al haar verhalen laten veranderen. In de eerste reportage wist de broer niet wat voor gevolgen dit voor haar zou hebben dus was hij eerlijk en heeft alles verteld zoals hij het heeft meegemaakt. Hij wist natuurlijk ook niet waarvoor het precies was, dat kan je ook zien in zijn gesprek.
Denkt u nou dat ik nu moet geloven dat hij heeft gelogen? Nee.. ze hebben ervoor gezorgd dat hij zijn verhaal om gaat draaien en basta... dit is politiek toch? Al deze praktijken zijn bekend voor u en voor mij. En over de foto's... maakt u zich maar geen zorgen er komen binnenkort meer boven water dan we weten.

Voorbeeld waarom ik denk dat zij ook weg moet, niet Amerika maar gewoon haar eigen land. Ze moet in andere landen verbod krijgen denk ik zelfs omdat ze voor opschudding zorg en met leugen de landen in komt. Dat is mijn eigen mening.
Ik zal ff op een rij zetten waarom ze weg moet.

1. Komst van Ayaan met leugens

2. vergunning verkregen en subsidies ontvangen

3. Eerwraak in agenda gezet met nadruk op
moslims

4. Film gemaakt met Theo Van Gogh "submision"
(Zwaar beledigend voor ons geloof en voor de vrouwen.)
Zij had nooit zo iets ervaren van haar geloof en ook niet gehoord van andere vrouwen alleen van speculaties heeft zij dit Film gemaakt en de Moslim vrouwen waren zelfs tegen haar en waar blijft haar kennis van het Islam en het stem van het vrouw? Zelfs de vrouwen keerden tegen haar.

5. Theo van Gogh Vermoord. Moge zijn ziel in vrede rusten.
(deze door Submision en ook tijdens een reportage waar Theo gaf dat hij zijn varken het naam Muhammed heeft gegeven na deze reportage zag Ayaan het kans om zijn film te maken met Theo omdat hij het wel durfde.)

6. Ayaan vraagt bescherming (kosten worden hoger) al onze belasting geld gaat weer weg.

7. Ayaan heeft niets bereikt alleen maar agenda punten op tafel gebracht en zo is het ook gebleven niets heeft ze waargemaakt alleen maar praatjes.

8. Ayaan heeft over alles gelogen. (Reportage met haar broer is voor mij voldoende bewijs).

9. Ayaan liegt nog steeds (ook in haar laatste press liegt ze weer dat ze uit eerwaak was gevlucht).

10. Ayaan moet alles terug betalen wat ze heeft ontvangen van de Nederlandse staat. Dat zijn onze belasting centjes. Dit moet ze doen omdat ze tijdens haar verblijf alles heeft bereikt met leugens en alleen weg zenden heeft geen zin duidelijk maken dat het niet mag door het geld terug te eisen is voor mij voldoende om te zeggen dat de Nederlandse wetgeving goed gehandhaafd word.

Jullie mogen zeker wel reageren op mijn teksten en ik antwoord te graag op een beschaafde manier en zou het zelfs leuk vinden er over te praten.

Bijna vergeten haar huwelijk gaat mij wel aan omdat zij beweerd dat zij gedwongen is tot huwelijk en dat zij niet eens tijdens de huwelijk aanwezig was en dan nog zecht ze dat ze weet wat gedwongen huwelijk is.

Volgens mij gaat het bij haar ook sowieso niet meer over het cultuur maar het Islam.
Waar zij niets van geleerd heeft, anders zou ze mijn geloof ook met respect behandelen.

Haar huwelijk boeit me niet veel ze mag het zelf weten, maar zich zelf in een situatie brengen en zeggen tegen andere vrouwen die gehuwd zijn door de ouders dat ze met hun mee voelt wat ze mee maken? Heee kom op ze heeft het nooit mee gemaakt. Wat willen jullie nog meer weten en of horen van mij. :)

Tuurlijk mogen ze dat ook terug vorderen. Ik ben er juist tegen dat mensen niet werken en zo maar subsidies krijgen. Ik strijd al 5 jaar tegen onterechte subsidies en uitkeringen.

Ik werk al gemiddeld 12 jaar in Nederland en weet dat er een hoop te doen is tot dat we de meeste problemen oplossen. Maar na 1 probleem komt weer de andere. Ik heb geen Moslimbroeders zo noem ik ze niet iedereen is mijn vriend moslim of niet. Ik dek niet de moslim gemeenschap ik ben juist tegen meeste praktijken die ze hier in Nederland uitvoeren maar uit meeste onderzoeken blijken dat niet alleen moslims de zelfde praktijken hebben om aan geld te komen.
Ik probeer dit te voorkomen en of op te lossen door met iedereen te praten gesprekken met ze te voeren, hun problemen oplossen, werk voor hen vinden, enz enz wat kan ik nog betekenen, niet veel in mijn eentje. Maar zoals eerder al vermeld alles hierboven is mijn mening en mijn gedachten.

Ik wil ook juist niet dat meer buitenlanders komen naar Nederland die niet geschoold zijn en het cultuur niet kunnen begrijpen. Hou ze maar lekker in hun eigen land, Nederland is ook geen groot land meer. Werkgelegenheid zal hopelijk nog meer stijgen in de toekomst maar op dit moment lossen we zulke problemen niet op hé nu is het alleen Ayaan en niets anders

Ik vind dat een super oplossing alleen dat heeft weer tijd nodig zeggen ze en kost geld.

Ze hadden het beter van te voren kunnen voorkomen maar ja daar gaat onze kostbare tijd weer.

Je kunt makkelijk zeggen dat ze iedereen de weg naar hun eigenland moeten wijsmaken maar ja Nederland kan dat niet als je kijk wat een immigrant besteed aan eten, drinken, kleren, huizen en nog meer. Meeste waar Nederland aan verdiend is buitenlanders omdat zij het geld snel weer verspillen. Dat lost dus onze probleem niet op het help juist met het binnen halen van meer buitenlanders die waarschijnlijk meer geld gaan verspillen.

Je kunt zeggen dat we hier nooit een gepaste oplossing vinden. Ze moeten wel zoals u het zegt iedereen contoleren voor juiste gegevens maar dat niet alleen ook of de gene die uit het buitenland is gekomen getrouwd is met de persoon zoals aangegeven op papier, hier zit ook duidelijk een handje van een Nederlandse persoon waar hij of zij geld voor krijgt om haar of hem naar Nederland te brengen.

Dus wat wil je doen heb jij een idee waardoor al onze problemen snel opgelost word?

Nee, ik heb geen oplossing. Ik vroeg vrijblijvend naar je mening over een stelling die niet de mijne is. Ik vroeg het omdat ik veronderstel dat heel veel (islamitische) buitenlanders staan te juichen omdat Ayaan wordt weggehoond en uitgekotst hier. Terwijl hun identiteitsdocumenten mogelijk ook onjuistheden bevatten.

Ik begrijp dat je er geen moeite mee hebt immigranten waarvan de papieren niet kloppen hun Nederlanderschap te ontzeggen. Dat is consequent van je en dat siert je.

Ik begrijp je antwoord helaas niet helemaal.
Wat bedoel je bijv. met 'iedereen'? Ik had het over immigranten met onjuiste identiteitsgegevens.

Ook de relatie tussen iemands bestedingspatroon en de (on)wenselijkheid/(on)redelijkheid is me niet duidelijk.

Do we need more or less Islam ?

Dear Ayaan - best wishes to you in your new role in the US.

I read a book of yours a year ago. I wish I could find ways to apologise for every insult or other wrongdoing that you experienced or witnessed in the name of Islam.

Unfortunately I can not as I am no Prophet of our Lord nor am I the Lord himself. I am just his humble and loyal servant.

I appreciate your pointing to the cruelties taking place in the name of Islam and feel you are in principle entitled in doing so.

Your provocative style is helpfull from a marketing standpoint and to me fits with the concept of "creative destruction".

After destruction there is always a need for rebuilding though. And I hope you can appreciate to know that there are Muslims like me who live life with the maximum ambition and effort to rebuild and reinstate the origins of Islam namely:

I feel bad when you mention the wrongdoings of Islam, but then I get a grip and remind myself that the wrong is not because of Islam, but because of the lack of Islam.

So many misconceptions. So many deceitfull Hadies. So many false Imams. Together the righteous among us have failed to live up to the peacefull ideals of Muhammad. Mainly because so many false messengers confuse the people and hijack the public debate.

Het is zeer triest te vernemen dat Nederland zo laf is en liever een gesprek met terroristen aangaat, dan stevig optreden. En jij bent niet de enige Ayaan. Ook Theo van Gogh, Pim Fortuyn, Salman Rushdie en W.G. Van Dorian zijn vermoord of hebben hun land moeten verlaten. Deze laatste vanwege het feit dat hij slechts een spannende thriller “De Vijfde Colonne” heeft geschreven die waarschuwt tegen extremisme.

Dit boek is reeds in de VS en Canada uitgebracht en komt nu in JUNI in Nederland en Belgie uit. Ik vind dat jullie hier iets over moeten weten. De Nederlandse auteur W.G. Van Dorian waarschuwt al voor een eventuele toekomstige escalatie van extremisme (politiek of religieus). Het is geschreven als een spannende Hollywood film, een echte fictie thriller! In het verhaal worden er geen doekjes om gewonden: wat gebeurt in het toekomstige Europa en Amerika is verschrikkelijk. Het dagelijks leven in een, door Radicalen bezet, Europa beschrijft tot in detail de verschrikkingen van discriminatie van Europeanen door radicalen, religieus extremisme en eventuele nucleaire gevolgen ervan…gezien door de ogen van een Amerikaanse journalist en een Nederlandse advocaat.

Reacties van Amerikaanse, Duitse en Canadese lezers die de Engelstalige versie reeds hadden gelezen waren enthousiast. Ik heb hem al gelezen en het is inderdaad een “eng” boek met een intimiderende sfeer, maar zonder valse politieke correctheid.

HIER KOMT HET DAN WEER EENS: W.G. Van Dorian zelf is, na de moorden op Theo van Gogh en Pim Fortuyn, naar Zuid Amerika geëmigreerd uit angst dat hij in Nederland zijn mening niet meer vrij kan uiten zonder gevaar voor eigen leven. geen geloof meer in een herstel van Nederland. Ik kan hierin komen.

What a fascinating story. I have just finished reading the Autobiography of Ayaan and in it found a way of understanding so much more on so many levels about so many things. Although my home language is English and my Dutch is not so good, I read the book in Dutch because it was given to me. So possibly I have missed many subtle nuances. But just to see the world through the eyes of this amazing human being is humbling, inspirational and thought-provoking. How much more we could all benefit from each other if we could but listen with understanding and love in our hearts for a fellow traveller of this human journey. No matter what religion, spiritual path or political party we be may believe, just remember that every single one of us on this planet has problems that need to be overcome. Thank you Ayaan for this invaluable gift that I have received just from being able to see the world through your eyes in your book. Congratulations for your courage and your candidness of putting yourself on the line and exposing so much of your personal life and thoughts so that others may catch a glimpse of another way of being and viewing the world. how many lie saying that they are asking for Asylum (which should be related to political problem in one's own country), while coming to an European country, and get wellcome?

But, at the opposite of you, then those people do nothing to help the wellcoming country to develop and evolve. At the opposite, those people sit back, and just try to do anything in order to live on the shouldern of the State (public money, coming from taxations, payed by working people/normal citizens, which often have an hard life), and worst of all, instead of trying to get integrated in the wellcoming country, they expect that the wellcoming country (and the wellcoming citizens) respect his/her native (cultural, religious, political, ...) habits, and get adapted to them!

Shortly: there are people asking for Asylum (while they are just practice illegal immigration), which do not benefit the wellcoming country and culture at all. There are people like you, that benefit (or at least protect) the wellcoming country and culture.

You opened a door on the reality of Islamic world, and on the suffering of many people, which HAVE to be submitted to that religion/politics (otherwise they get condamned to death). Through you, many people on the world got a voice, while they did not have one. Suffering and silent people, through you, got the opportunity to "talk about their hell".

Of course, there will be some time before specific problems will be resolved. But the first and very important step is to talk about the existance of problem. Without this first and important step, there is no possible solution to existing problems.

Thanks to you and other people like you, it has been possible to start discussing again about the Values we want to believe in. It was possible to face the fact that our present Rigths CANNOT BE TAKEN FOR GRANTED. We have to "fight" (by word not by sword) "every day" to protect them. Togheter with Rights, we have Duties, and -about Islam- it is (very) important that also Islamic people understand that THEY DO NOT JUST HAVE "RIGHTS" BUT THAT THEY ALSO HAVE DUTIES, like everyone else of us.

The dis-information going around in Islamic countries is a part of the Problem. You did -thank you!- above all talk about the part of the Problem concerning the opposition between Western Values and Islamic Values, on the Western territories. This is what almost interests us, because it is the only thing we can do something about: this means, we can decide what kind of politics we want to promote and protect in our Western countries.

You gave us a chance to become more self-responsible about our present and future! Ours and the ones of our/the children.

I guess that your lie would be "Buddhistic"ly called: the beneficial trick. (I do not say anything else more).

I deteste lies, but I must consider this: if you were my daughter, and you were going through the danger of a combined marriage (where domestic violence toward you would be allowed), I would pray God (?!) to let you say some lies, and get wellcome in another country in the name of "Asylum".

I hope that a lie said to save an innocent life, won't be considered as bad as a lie said to trick another, for selfish purposes. (...).
